Madurai, January 2018 :Dr. S. Gurushankar, Chairman, Meenakshi Hospital & Research Centre, Madurai and Meenakshi Hospital, Thanjavur was presented the prestigious, ‘MaruthuvaChemmall’award today at Madurai in august presence of distinguished personalities and general public. The Rotary Club of Kumbakonam Temple City conferred this award to Dr.Gurushankar in recognition to his exemplary achievements and in appreciation of yeomen services to the community in the field of Healthcare. The award comprises of a plaque and a citation.
Hon’ble Justice Thiru. T. Raja, Madras High court was the Chief Guest and Thiru. T.K. Rajendran I.P.S., Director General of Police, Govt. of Tamilnadu was the Guest of Honour.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. S. Gurushankar said, “I am much beholden and grateful to the Rotary Club of Kumbakonam Temple City for awarding this prestigious title.Healthcare services in India certainly has sharp contrast between rural and urban areas. We have been striving to bridge this gap different. We have a long journey ahead towards improving healthcare. As an Institution, we believe that access to affordable healthcare is a basic human right and every citizen should get access to high quality treatment.”
Dr. S.Gurushankar, Chairman, Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre, Madurai, Meenakshi Hospital, Thanjavur is a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. He established the 250-bed Meenakshi Hospital at Thanjavur four years ago which has been a runaway success. This is the only hospital to be accredited by NABH in the Trichy and Thanjavur districts. Dr Gurushankar straddles charity, patient centric service and organizational growth with ease. The continuing success of these two hospitals and the people’s trust in its care speak volumes about Dr.Gurushankar’s managerial ability
Dr. S.Gurushankar has had his management training from IIM Bangalore and Harvard Business School. Innovations in marketing strategy, the right bouquet of services and specialties and his one to one approach with the public have been key factors in this entrepreneurial success. He has aggressive growth plans for the future. Following his heart for philanthropy, he oversaw the successful completion of over 150 free heart surgeries, as the Director of Kid Aid Foundation, a Not-for-profit organization.
Dr.S. Gurushankar has been the Active member of CII healthcare panel of Tamilnadu, a patron member of the Association of Healthcare Providers (India) and an active member of the Healthcare federation of India (NATHEALTH). As the National Vice President of the Federation of Hospital Administrators,Dr.S.Gurushankar has endeavoured to bring about positive change in the field of medicine both as an educational discipline and as profession. He is an avid C K Prahlad enthusiast and devours books on both management theory and practice as well as medicine.
He is the present State President of the TN Chapter of the Association of Healthcare Providers (India) and the Secretary of the ANBAI.
